"I swear it is my great hope tha McCain wins the election"

Your great hope? Really? If so, you need to get out of the house more...so you can find some nice highway traffic to play in, you wretched pathetic pallid pale weak watery shitass excuse for an American.

Second time in 48 hours I've seen this exact sentiment posted ON DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND. And no, it wasn't posted by the same person. Maybe it is only troll shit, but I don't care.

I don't give one wet slippery shit who you support for the nomination.

I don't care if you vote in the general come November, either. If you're so catastrophically fucked in the head that you don't know the difference between the Devil and the deep blue sea come November, well...you represent 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000002% of the left-leaning electorate, so we can pretty much survive your masturbatory self-righteous abstinence...just so long as you say thanks once things start getting better, which they will, NO MATTER which of our kids wins the balloon party this summer.

I don't care.

But. I. Swear. To. God.

If I see another poster in this godforsaken testical-kick of a forum say they hope the GOP wins the White House in November, I will personally burn your fucking house down, drive your car into the nearest available bridge strut, ruin your credit, deflower your chicadee, manhandle your couch cushions after eating lye with my bare hands, and make you watch while I sit down in the charred wasteland of your former livingroom and punch myself in the face over and over and over and over and over again, until the chicadee throws in the towel or until you pee your pants and promise never to do it again.

Oh, and FUCK YOURSELF to boot. Yes, you. You're thinking about daring me on this. Don't. I know where you live.

The Supreme Court matters, assbag. Choice matters. Lather rinse repeat.

Gonna be a lot of smoke and sore-ass birds if this stupid idiotic self-destructive garbage comes up again on my watch.

Jesus.

Yeah.

I had to fucking say that.

We must and will support whichever candidate is nominated- regardless of who we prefer at this very minute- for God's sake people-- how can you- any of you- even begin to consider voting GOP or supporting a GOP win. We CANNOT-- allow McCain to win. Period. Congress matters- the Supreme Court matters- our planet matters- the world's view of us matters- our country matters- Everyone get off of your stupid high horses, stop the bickering and the in-party destruction and get on board with the fact that if we lose in November, it really CAN and WILL GET Worse.

Thanks, Will for the reminder.

Meeting asinine "Go McCain" invective with equally asinine "Burn down your house" invective is never helpful and it does not raise the level of discourse. It just perpetuates it.

IMO.

Who the hell wants 4 more years of bodybags coming home from Iraq plus at least 11 billion a month that could go to building infrastructure and social programs?

Lets see 11 billion x 48= 528 BILLION. Yeah a cool half a TRILLION for progressive social programs! And no one has to DIE for it either!

Plus king georges tax cut for the rich will go away adding many more millions or billions to be spent right here in the USA!

In the heat of the moment yesterday I said I would never vote for Hillary..but..I'll hold my nose and do it if I must.

The survival of this country demands a democratic administration regardless of who is in charge. (But its gonna be Obama!):)

26. Saw that too, and I was tempted...
...to alert, but I figured, “What's the use?” after I checked his profile.

He/she's a longtime poster here—since '01, and the unspoken policy here seems to be that old-timers with high post counts are allowed a certain amount of leeway. It takes a loooooooonnnnnnnng time for flamebait posts by them to be locked, a longtime for them to get a message removed, and they are almost NEVER tombstoned for acts that would get a person who came here in the last couple of years “the granite chiclet”.

On a DEMOCRATIC forum, someone spouting “I swear it is my great hope tha McCain wins the election" with rules openly against PUSHING FOR THE DEFEAT OF DEMS should be disciplined.

But no.

People use their seniority to get away with the most scurrilous shit. They can say that Obama's starting a “race war” with his very presence in the race, or pull from thin air the idea that his supporters will blame “the White Devil” should he lose the nom fight.

There is an ugly divisiveness in this forum and contrary to the whining of certain people—it's on both sides of the fence.

Spitefulness reigns. And there will be a lot of folks around here needing radical rhinoplasty to replace those mutilated noses come mid-November. :(

That clown, who shall remain nameless—is who I cited when I spoke about longtime posters who are allowed to spew anti-Dem venom. Not you, William. Your work I respect immensely.

36. We're all mad here
You can hang me in a bottle like a cat
Let the crows pick me clean but for my hat
Where the wailing of a baby
Meets the footsteps of the dead
We're all mad here

As the devil sticks his flag into the mud
Mrs Carol has run off with Reverend Judd
Hell is such a lonely place
And your big expensive face will never last

And you'll die with the rose still on your lips
And in time the heart-shaped bone that was your hips
And the worms, they will climb the rugged ladder of your spine
We're all mad here

And my eyeballs roll this terrible terrain
And we're all inside a decomposing train
And your eyes will die like fish
And the shore of your face will turn to bone

:toast: to the master...

...who, rumor has it, will be touring again sometime soon.

Shh.

at least they seemed to admit that you had a reputation to take a hit, so, I guess that's some attempt at putting you on a pedestal. I think their comical attempt at trying to rip on you is quite hilarious, actually. I mean, really, what's the basis for it? And, surely they can do better than the little jabs they've come out swinging with?

The only thing I've noticed in some of your posts that you've seemed to put a hurtin' on - is a bottle of liquor! What's so wrong with that!

47. Where where you the 1000's of times when DU'ers said they would not vote for Hillary?
Saying they wouldn't vote for Hillary, should she win the nod, is the same thing as saying they wish the GOP would win.

Surely, all those hundreds of DU'ers who stated thousands of time on this board that they wouldn't vote for Hillary are smart enough to realize that, in essence, they are choosing a GOP victory over a Hillary presidency by abandoning her, should she become the Democratic nominee.

The "refusal to vote for Hillary" sentiment has been clearly expressed on the Democratic Underground for at least two years. Where was your outrage then?

55. Nobody on DU should be claiming they won't vote for the Dem nominee, no
matter who that is. But there is a bit of a difference between not voting and actually wishing McCain wins in November. Maybe the outcome is the same, but the sentiment is quite different. And for the record, I *will* vote for Hillary if I must.

67. Look, I agree with the OP, & I didn't see who said they wished McCain wins, but
to me it's like selective criticism by lots of posters here on DU who have didn't seem to mind when so many others were boasting how they'd never vote for Hillary, should she be our nominee. Shouldn't the set of priorities which guide us now have been the same for when so many were bragging how they'd never vote for a Democratic candidate named Hillary? I would love to have seen more outrage just like this, only a year or so ago as well.

231. you must have a selective blind spot then
because there have been "you MUST vote for the Dem nominee" posts here almost weekly or more, and many of those were responding to an "I won't vote for Hillary" sentiment back in December or January when she seemed inevitable.

Also, as I never tire of pointing out, there are many places, such as Massachusetts, Illinois, and Kansas, where a DU can write in the name of The Pied Piper and it would not make a TANJ bit of difference because the Dem nominee is gonna win the first three states and the Repub win the last one, no matter how the entire DU membership in that state votes. So an "I won't do that" does not mean the same as "I hope McCain wins". Not if you know the territory.

58. The OP was referring to another commenter's quote...
...that went as follows-(said comment has since been deleted, but the author NOt tombstoned because of longtime status here)

“The dems who support Obama are fools and I swear it is my great hope that McCain wins the election...truly I do not care if he appoints judges that wreck the constitution.”

Said person came out and openly CHEERED FOR A GOP VICTORY and capped it off with an okay of generations and constitution wrecking court stacking.

He didn't just say “I'm not voting for Sen. Clinton—he actually said that he hopes the Dems lose and could care less about the courts and constitution beng wrecked.

One thing (the “I won't vote for X person) is a slap in the face. To pine for destruction of the constitution and OPENLY cheer on GOP victory? That's a kick in the nuts.

It was a batshit post—since poofed away by the mods, but similar sentiments from many posters, and NOT JUST ON OBAMA'S SIDE (DU rules forbid my calling them out, but you all know them—some call themselves “news writers”, or take on pejorative names for Muslims as a handle, etc.)

Venom is not limited to one species of snake. But it's venom just the same.

110. Raising a timid hand and saying
"me too".

I've been lurking on these boards for a while and only have a (very small) handful of posts to my credit. Mostly I just read and ponder...and what I come away with lately are a lot of questions about how things were here during the 2000 election...and the 2004 election.

Were people going after each others' (Democratic) candidates with such fervor and (seeming) bloodlust? My god, the anger...the vile accusations people throw at each other....you people belong to the same party???? Couldn't prove it by me...

So how were things here during those days? The same? Did people trash each others' choice of candidate, then when election day rolled around, stay home and POUT because "their guy" wasn't on the ballot? "My choice isn't there, so I'm not gonna vote...nyah nyah...take that!" Voter disenfranchisement aside, is that a pretty good take on what happened and why we got stuck with George "The Idiot" Bush?

After all is said and done here and one candidate gets the nomination, are the people who supported the other one going to step up and be mature enough to choose Party over their own egos (thank you Nance Greggs for a wonderful article some weeks back in which you asked that very same question)?

I personally don't think any of the three major candidates are special enough to write home about...my own inclination as to which one I'd actually vote for (and yes, it's a Democrat) isn't important. But even though I don't care for the other one, if that's the way things go, then yes....I will vote for that person.

Because I don't want four more years of a batshit crazy Republican in the White House.

OK...back to lurk mode...

Dean went down, war heating up, Kerry voted 'Aye' on the IWR and couldn't talk his way effectively through that thicket for love or money, Rove telling all GOPers to "run on the war" even as they are getting - and I mean boy howdy getting, lung ailments from volunteering in an ocean of burnt plastics and Carter-era soot, five hundred million billion gazillion broken flourescent lights and all that gas, but medical doesn't cover it because they volunteered. And some people really thought Rudy had a chance to take back NY State.

It is to laugh.

Oh, P.S. The radios didn't work on the one day it would have helped the most. Rudy took a low bid nobody contract for the radios, and they may as well have been hatpins for all the good they did. That was a lot of people who got killed because their radios weren't good enough to catch the "Fall back!" signal.

GOP. They care about YOU.

322. Welcome to DU!!!
Glad you got up the nerve to post. It's been pretty hellish around here lately. It was
bad in 2004, but I don't think it was THIS bad. It'll get better after we get a nominee. The people
who are to foolish to see that BOTH of our candidates are WAY better than anything out there will be TS'd
or leave on their own and we will unify. :toast:

That's okay. You Hillbot dipshits go throw your fits and sit out the next election, or vote for McCain. Just know I'll be hoping for your slow death for the TREASON that sitting out the next election represents. That is assuming you KNOW what the hell is going on in the world and your not a conservative nutjob, if so then sitting out the election is definite TREASON. So, let's stop saying your going to commit TREASON by sitting out the election...when you know how bad we're screwed if you don't. Anything but a landslide will be overturned by DieBold. WAKE UP!!

You want to know why Hillary CAN'T become your super special first woman president? She isn't good enough. Too many women realize that having a GOOD first woman president is more important that having it right this second. Cut it out with this give to me now entitlement BS and look at the big picture.

193. Why the hell should we, members of the DEMOCRATIC underground hide threads that...
Support John McCain in office
Support any third party candidate like Nader, Paul, Bloomberg, my mother or anyone else who wants to run 3rd party
Suggests that there is no diffence between our candidate and any candidate of any other party out there including the Republican party.

This is not any of the following:
"I'm ok with Republicans like McCain in the White House Underground"
"Ralph Nader is ok with me Underground"
"My conscious is more important that our Supreme Court, the War and a woman's right to choose Underground"

Why should I hide threads - the rules are very specific about this stuff ESPECIALLY after the primaries are decided. These threads should be locked and repetitive instigators starting these threads should be dealt with.

The purpose of this site is to support DEM candidates for office.

GOP and Third Party supporters are invited to use some other bastard's bandwidth.

It's quite plain, and there is no wiggle room, UNLESS a Dem is not running (Bernie Sanders, e.g.).

Don't hide the threads, alert on them, and they'll go POOF like a fart in a windstorm.

80. The sick part is that Gore would be our president
If progressives didn't fall for the "Gore = Bush" rhetoric from Nader and the other protest votes in 2000. Look at the last 8 years and see what that attitude brought us. :-(

We are in danger of falling in to the same trap in 2008. I wish conservatives were not clever enough to the point of casting a protest vote against McCain in November. But unfortunately they are a little smarter in that sense.

Neither did the fact that we had a nominee who ran away from a president with a 65% approval and who chose a right-wing religious zealot as his running mate.

Of all the things Democrats should be bitching about in 2000, why do we keep focusing on the one thing Democrats did NOT do to themselves?

If you think Obama's going to win by an unstealable margin, ask yourself: do we really know what that margin is? The only reason Repukes didn't steal Congress in 06 is that Foley happened AFTER they had pre-programmed the machines. We have no idea how much Kerry won by in 04 -- some studies are indicating it was a landslide.

All it takes is some bullshit October Surprise to make the poll results seem plausible. Then they can switch as many votes as they want.

148. We have been lighting those fires ad nauseum, but, for some reason
which we do not know, congress keeps putting those fires out. They pretend outrage, and some are really fighting, but most pretend and just go right on with the status quo. So, nothing happens and we are just more frustrated. A lot of us do what we can, but have lost our zeal because of the constant downhill battle. Isn't it weird that years after Gore and Kerry, we still have to vote not knowing if our votes are even counting.

Bill still had a 65% approval rating at the beginning of this nomination race, and how has he done
for Hillary? Looks like Al Gore called that one right.

And that right wing zealot was still popular enough in his own state to survive a major effort to unseat him.

I've called out Lieberman in articles on more than one occasion so dont even think I am the slightest bit supportive of him these days, but he is one of the reasons Florida was as close as it was. Gore doesnt get close in FL without him in 2000

433. Progressives didn't kick blacks off the voter rolls.
But in 2000, 97,000 progressives voted for Nader in Florida alone, in a race that was decided by less than 600 votes. That's pretty hard to forget -- especially with Ralph Narcissist having just announced yet another run.

445. Which one can we fix?
We can't keep Ralph Nader from running and we can't keep people from voting for him. But we CAN fight against illegal election fixing. Those 600 votes could just have easily come from the 90,000 people illegally purged from the roles.

It could also have come from a candidate who actually had a strategy for fighting for an election he actually won.

But I guess it's easier to demonize one person than to actually put in the real work to fix our problems.

I am only lukewarm about Obama due his cozy belief you can make nice with Republicans or Corporations. That is bold-faced deceit, or a dangerous naivete. I fight insurance carriers every day for the weak and disadvantaged , as well as Corporations who profit from human misery. I know they are monsters who must be FOUGHT. They will never willingly relinquish power.

I only hope that Obama is using the camouflage of rhetoric for votes, and will be the fighter we need, if he is our nominee. Sorry to disappoint you where rants are concerned. I reserve mine for righteous indignation.

Still ... I have issues ... and the opportunity to watch while Will "deflower your chicadee, manhandle your couch cushions after eating lye with my bare hands, and make you watch while I sit down in the charred wasteland of your former livingroom and punch myself in the face over and over and over and over and over again, until the chicadee throws in the towel or until you pee your pants and promise never to do it again." ...

Really, you can't possibly expect me to resist the temptation to induce mischief of such a spectacular order ...

I understand your frustration and even your anger. But I'm not sure the threats, regardless of being hyperbole or outraged-tongue-in-cheek they might have been meant to be, are all that appropriate. 109. thanks Will, you actually made me laugh
at a GDP post today-

Which is no small feat.

I finally committed to voting for Hillary if I have to- in a couple of replies yesterday. I was beginning to realize that if I didn't give my word to do so, with the way her campaign is going, it would easily become impossible to do that NOW.

I will stand by my word now that I have committed, but I will also do everything in my power to ensure that we don't end up in that situation this fall.

People say many things in anger and frustration that they later regret. Self control is an important quality for a leader to have. Obama seems to understand that- I'd like to follow his lead- :P

Thanks for your post-

peace~

113. People forget that if a Dem wins in November, it's the entire Dem party that takes control, not just
one candidate. I tell my teenage kids that the economy is going to get really bad for the next year or two, but once we get a Dem president with Dem economists throughout the executive branch things will get turned around. Whether it's Obama or Clinton, we will be replacing hundreds, if not thousands, of republican cronies, hacks and fuckups with Dems that are far superior, and much better for the average American. And both Obama and Clinton will be choosing from basically the same talent pool.

You can talk about how the Dems are too beholden to corporate interests, too compromising, but the truly delusional ones are those that don't see the difference between a Dem executive branch and a republican executive branch. Out with the republicans and in with the Democrats.

I keed, I keed!

The Scotus and the veto-lock on Congress have been my main arguments since day one of why I will proudly support any of the Democratic candidates running, whether they are my first or last choice.

I mean come on! McCain!?!? Is someone taking Ann Coulter seriously or something? Really? It's like saying, "the nominee is too conservative so I am going to vote for someone even more conservative!"

It's like one step above (or below maybe) supporting Ron Paul, and several below supporting puppy rape. Morans unite! Then please find the nearest exit....

The fact is that having McCain in office means a continuation of the misery that America, Iraq and Afghanistan has had to endure over the last few years. Lets also not forget the Supreme Court and what is likely to be more on the bench like Scalia, Alito, Roberts, Kennedy and Thomas. Looking forward to that idiots who are threatening to vote for McCain? Plus he is completely nuts. I am sick of the fighting and hatred between the supporters of both camps. However, no matter how any of us may feel about the current two front-runners, voting for McCain should not be an option. That, in my opinion, is just crazy talk. Hell, write in a Dem who you feel should win if it bothers you so much if Hillary or Barack wins the Dem nom and it offends your tender sensibilities. But Jeez, NOT MCCAIN DAMNIT.

As a recovering Republican who isn't sure I will ever really be a Democrat but am sure it will be a very cold day in hell before I vote for a Republican again I must say that if a Republican were ever to tempt me, John McCain would not be that Republican. And if I were a Democrat, I would be highly offended by someone saying they would vote for him. There are Republicans who are offended by Republicans saying they will vote for him. That should tell you something about John McCain.

If Hillary Clinton is the nominee, either hold your nose and vote for her, don't vote for anyone, or waste your vote on Nader. But please, please, please do not GIVE your vote to John McCain.

Gotta say that I'll vote the Dem nominee, but I don't agree with you that "things will get better" anytime soon after a Democratic president takes office. Especially if we keep electing fucking bluedogs and DLC types to Congress.

We don't just need a change in the party that occupies the White House. We need a change in how Congress does its business. We've had a Democratic majority in Congress, and the first day Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid castrated themselves.

No balls. I'd like to see this kind of anger from you and others at the fact that our Democratic leadership have thus far failed to protect the Constitution from being trampled upon by Bushco. They continue to do it with impunity.

yes it really does, but because of the control of a few like the World Banks down to the NeoCons, there really is no choice because the election is not and election its and appointment by the top elites of the world, behind closed doors and then a show that follows to make it all seem legit. Take for instance this election, I said 3 years ago that McCain would win, WHY? because he signed on to the NeoCons pledge when he signed on to the PNAC, they are the elite group controlling the government right now. This ones even better than BUSH VS KERRY because you have a Black Mand and woman running a rigged race against the GOP. The media can simply sum it up with the "The country is not ready for a Black man or Women" FUCKIN GREAT!!!

"
If I see another poster in this godforsaken testical-kick of a forum say they hope the GOP wins the White House in November, I will personally burn your fucking house down, drive your car into the nearest available bridge strut, ruin your credit, deflower your chicadee, manhandle your couch cushions after eating lye with my bare hands, and make you watch while I sit down in the charred wasteland of your former livingroom and punch myself in the face over and over and over and over and over again, until the chicadee throws in the towel or until you pee your pants and promise never to do it again."

You cannot be serious. Do you really mean to burn down the houses of fellow Americans just because they vote differently than you?

I don't think that is what you mean, but you give a quote that can easily be used against Democrats. Why not just simply say you think that they are wrong and that a GOP win will be terrible for the USA?

and this gem "
Oh, and FUCK YOURSELF to boot. Yes, you. You're thinking about daring me on this. Don't. I know where you live."

what are you doing, tracking us????

Sorry, but I have family members that will vote for McCain and I would never consider burning their house down. You seem to be calling for civil war.

170. You know Will, back when Conyers & Pelosi were folding
like tents on contempt charges, and Congress was passing FISA, and Leahy was talking big about not allowing hearings on Mukasey until he received subpoenaed materials (only, again, to fold like a tent--and, he still hasn't brought contempt charges to the floor of the Senate on Rove), and Congress passing war funding without strings attached, etc.---your mantra was "I'll stick with the Dems." (I remember that thread well)

You seem to think that all our problems will be solved with a Democratic President and Democratic Congress. Guess what. They.won't.

Electing Democrats should be a means to an end. You seem to make it an end in an of itself.

I really do wish you would get worked up as much about the erosion of our civil liberties and the Democratic leadership's refusal, for lack of courage, to do anything about it. You express yourself very well in a variety of ways. But, in my opinion, get your panties in a wad over the wrong things. You major on the minors, and minor on the majors.

Read the bad news last.

But you know this already.

Keep squinting your way around the bigger picture and the potential for actually doing a little good for people here and there.

The perfect is the enemy of the good, and your ideals - while laudable and ones I proudly share - aren't the kind of things you can feed to a hungry infant when the shelter soupline dries up.

It is what it is. We didn't invent this shit; 99% of what's gone wrong stems from decisions made 60, 70, 100 years ago. But we gotta play the cards we were dealt.

Winning works.

200. And, keeping the same Democratic leadership in Congress
we now have will do nothing for that hungry infant, either. In fact, it will continue to cause more and more hungry infants (and dead ones) in places like Iraq and Darfur, et al. It will keep shipping our jobs overseas as we cut more deals like NAFTA, etc...which means more hungry infants, etc.

Winning elections are fine and good. But, it's what you do after you win that matters. And, right now, our Democratic leadership is doing squat, and not making anything better.

Winning works, yes. But, for whom?

Note: this plan must be able to operate in reality with, like, gravity and consequences and stuff.

We can complain. Or we can keep winning eletions and passing better initiatives and bringing the public to our side slowly but surely, just the way actual change has always come to pass.

Slowly. Working with whatever shithole situation that defines reality. Can't eat good intentions.

Put people with real cajones in charge--people who will not back down from the fight that needs to be.

I agree with what you said about those who would "hope McCain wins." It is fucking easy to rant and rave against a fellow voter for making a stupid comment about hoping McCain wins. But, it amazes me that it is THIS that brings out the rant in you, while all the other stuff gets nothing from you but, "I'll stick with the Dems."

We won in 2006. What has changed? Answer: NOTHING. We Democrats deserve and should demand better from those we put in leadership positions. And, if we don't get what we demand, we should fucking replace them with people who will get results.

Pelosi and Reid need to go back to being followers. They are piss-poor leaders.

I find it amazing that in this haven for all the bruised Dems, where we limped after the 2004 sham of an election, HERE there are people saying or even hinting that they will vote for a fascist repub if they don't get their way. What happened? Even if you are frustrated, don't even THINK it because NOTHING could be as bad as another repub in the White House. They are all monsters, with very few exceptions.

180. Over the top in language, but good one in principle
I've been appalled at the petulant, childish, temper tampers thrown by some people on these boards who say if my candidate doesn't win the primary I'll a) sit out the election; b) write in my candidate; c) vote for Nader. Thank god I didn't see the one about McCain.

Have we all forgotten 2000? People actually believing that there was NO DIFFERENCE between Gore and Bush? How did THAT work out?

Frankly, the probable nominee isn't my favorite...far from it. I don't even LIKE him. But I'll vote for him (and hold his feet to the fire afterwards). That choice, to me is less than ideal, but the alternative is unthinkable.

321. I agree. During the 2004 primaries, a few of the Dean supporters posted that they were
going to vote for Bush*, if Dean didn't get the nomination. That bothered me, just as this does, but it's always a little nutty here during the primary season. Let's hope that we can all come together in support once we have a nominee. I'm a Kucinich and Edwards supporter, but I'll support and vote for whomever that is...:kick:

Hell no I don't want it to happen. America does not deserve what will happen if McCain is elected. OTOH, the Democratics have done everything in their power to offer up a sure loser candidate. Conceptually, the Democratics deserve to lose. The one doesn't have anything to do with the other. My fears are not my hopes.

The Rapeublics had no trouble beating a strong candidate in Kerry with a proven fuck-up in Bush. They will have no trouble whatsoever doing the same to either of the two Dems. Although I swear I wish it doesn't come to pass, I am quite sure that W is right: McCain will be president, and the GOoP will retake both houses of congress.

365. Here's the wiki for Yellow Dog Democrat- which i bastardized to "Tree Stump"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_dog_Democrat

the quote is credited to Theodore Hallam from this debate-

"That suits me," clarioned the interrupter. "My question is this: Didn't you say at the Louisville convention not four weeks ago that if the Democrats of Kentucky, in convention assembled, nominated a yaller dog for governor you would vote for him?"

"I did," said Hallam calmly.

"Well, then," whooped the heckler, eager now to press his seeming advantage, "in the face of that statement, why do you now repudiate the nominee of that convention, the Honorable William Goebel?"

For his part Hallam waited for perfect quiet and at length got it.

"I admit," he stated blandly, "that I said then what I now repeat, namely, that when the Democratic party of Kentucky, in convention assembled, sees fit in its wisdom to nominate a yaller dog for the governorship of this great state, I will support him — but lower than that ye shall not drag me!"

So, ironically, the first known use of “yaller dog” was directly aimed at a Democrat by a Democrat.

Sounds like DU forums have roots going back to Kentucky!?!?!

Feel free to use the graphic any time you like, Mr. Pitt!

Not all Republicans are evil. The party is evil. There are liberal and moderate Republicans. They're not all extra-chromosome conservatives waving their Bibles and their flags. They are not the party. But then Democrats are not the party either, are they? Democrats at least have that advantage over the Republicans. They don't always follow the Pied Piper just because the party tells them to. Republicans used to. That is changing. Not all Republicans support George W. Bush. Not all Democrats support Nancy Pelosi. Not all Republicans support Nancy Pelosi in her position that impeachment is off the table. Some would like to have had it on the table just as much as the Democrats. Some Republicans believe the Bushes should be tried for crimes against humanity. Some don't. Some Democrats don't. In both cases, you have to ask why not? Or to paraphrase Molly Ivins why the HELL not given the HELL they have cast us all into?

Time for the people to stop being just part of a party and try to be just the people. Both parties are disasters for the people because the leadership of both, it seems, only represent the special interest rather than the public interest. All eyes turn, again, to Nancy Pelosi.

Some Republicans are becoming Independent. Some might become Libertarian were it not for Ron Paul and Clarence Thomas. Mainly because of Ron Paul. Some might become Democrats. And the progressive Democrats will rail about the conservative Democrats! But at least they will be part of the process. The extra-chromosome conservatives excluded everyone from the Republican Party except the extra-chromosome conservatives. Which was probably a major mistake.

The reality of what's wrong with the Republican Party is best exemplified by Rick Perry. Good old Governor Good Hair. His hair isn't the only thing about him that's slick. Like so many other extra-chromosome Texas Republicans he was a Democrat before he was a Republican. Want him back? You can have him. Of course you don't want him back. But there are plenty others just like him who are still Democrats. Call them whatever you want. I call them Republicrats. Supporting oligarchy instead of democracy. Thanks, but no thanks.

Some Republicans already vote for Democrats. Some will vote for Obama. None will vote for Hillary. But many of those who won't vote for Hillary also won't vote for McCain. Impasse of the millenium. What to do, what to do.

What will I do if Hillary is the candidate? Probably bitch for a month. Probably swear I will not vote for anyone. Then swear I will vote for Nader. And then probably hold my nose and vote for Hillary. What choice will there be? At no point will I swear I will vote for McCain.

So she's a Republicrat. Better a Republicrat than a Republican who has sworn allegiance to the party instead of to the people. Except for this and that. He is the big kahuna of the flip-flop.

Which is why so many Republicans, liberal, moderate, and even extra-chromosome conservative, don't like him and don't trust him. And won't vote for him. The "RINOS" are really "DINOS" as in DINOSAURS and I truly believe they are about to become extinct. At the polls.

Whatever anyone else does, please do not give your vote to John McCain believing it is making a statement. It is not. It is just one more vote for John McCain.

I know you're just funnin' me but I like to get this kind of thing right.

Let's say 200 million eligible just to choose a nice round number.

So if our country is evenly divided, that would mean 100 million left-leaning (including left-leaning independents)

Now if 60% of 200 million had voted, that's 120 million (60 million left-leaning).

So that leaves 40 million left-leaners who didn't vote, which would be 40% (not 20% or 50%) of them.

Hypothetically.

Wonder what the real percentage is.

253. Take the 50-55% body who'll definitely vote
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 03:37 PM by WilliamPitt
and call it our 100% pool. 25-30% of that pool is the GOP base, the single most reliable voter bloc in the history of the universe.

Not the general pop, mind you. Broaden it out and they're like 10-12% nationally.

But any GOP nominee who says the right things about Jesus and fetuses will wake up on election day with 25% of the vote guaran-damn-teed. All they need is another 26%.

The disproportionate weight of influence held by the base belies their yarns about being lazy southern caricatures who don't really deign to participate. They participate. By running shit.

But anything above 55% turnout benefits Democrats across the board demographics-wise. New voters, new citizens, probably leery of the whole politics and campaigns culture, but heavily likely to vote "tomorrow" over "Old and stuff stays the same so shut up."

I smell a 60% turnout this year, maybe 65%.

Pathetic, indeed. But hey, when we started out, we had to use unpicked melons as replacements for wheelbarrow wheels. Sometimes, we ate sand.

You ate sand?

We ate sand.

I would NEVER vote for McCain (even though Obama stated he will "work with Republicans",) but really...DO OUR VOTES EVEN COUNT ANYMORE? And where's the beef from those who claim to give a damn about the people and this constitution? After eight long years of waiting to see justice what will we get? Will either Obama or Clinton stand up after taking the oath if DIEBOLD even lets them get that far and call for Bush and Cheney and their accomplices to be arrested and held accountable for their crimes and misdemeanors? Or won't that matter anymore once people get get what they want?

It's all fine and good to get all up in it on a message board when it gets you to the top of rec list, but really... what the hell has been done in the last eight years by Democrats in Congress to make our lives any better and to stand up to these bastards effectively? As someone who believes in Democratic principles and has voted Democratic all my adult life, I have to admit that I am very disappointed with the Democratic leadership in this country, and that includes Clinton and Obama who have been part of that Congress that hasn't had the guts to stand up and do what they swore they would do when they took their oaths.

So the message I am trying to get across is, while I believe that Democrats have much better policies than Republicans, it seems those core policies have been hjacked by them enabling Republicans. The Patriot Act... The Military Commissions Act... The Real id Act... The Homegrown Terrorism Act... signing statements... recess appointments... Democrats including Obama voting FOR BUSH'S cabinet picks... Are you outraged about those votes? I want to vote for Democrats not Republican enablers with Ds next to their names. We had a few running but they got pushed out by the media and the elitists who really run this show. So no, while I would NEVER in a million years vote for McCain because he epitomizes that system... so do corporate Democrats, so don't be surprised to see so many disillusioned Democrats out here as there are who want so desperately to believe it will get better but can't because the reality proves otherwise.

278. I share your sentiments here. I'd never vote for McCain...
...but I am much less than thrilled over either Obama or Hillary because they will not support impeachment now, and I think we're smoking something really exotic if we think either of them will do anything in the future to hold the current rogue administration to account. In its fervor to *move on* after each criminal administration finishes its slash and burn policies, our government in its various phases is looking less and less like the America we've all come to know (at least we thought so) and love.

I keep returning to this image: Before healing can take place, the wound must be cleaned.

If we simply try to build a new governing body over the rotting corpse of the current one, we shall not soon see home (with a nod to Captain Kirk)!

I maintain cautious hope because it's about the only thing we have left.

I remember in 2004 when it looked like Dean would not make it and people were saying the same thing, that you said you would support the nominee no matter what. You said you would stick stick a Kerry sign out of the top of your head and march down the street for him just to kick Bush out. That comment of yours has helped me to keep perspective about the stakes in these elections. Remember that people changed their tune then and they will now too. Just wait, have some faith.

Same goes for anyone who posts whiny, stomp-my-feets bullshit about "I refuse to support ******** in the general".

This is, as you say, DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND. One of these two fine Senators will be our nominee.

Once we have a nomination, these chuckle-fucks will have to abide by the DU rules, no matter how much they can't stand Primary Candidate A, whose positions are nearly indistinguishable from the Primary Candidate B that they so strongly supported.

Until then, though, I fear this place will continue to smell like low-grade ass.

People are free to say whatever the fuck they want in America, yes indeed. Around here, though, we're expected to support DEMOCRATS, and that includes whichever DEMOCRAT happens to win the Primary process and goes up against John McCain in November.

There's a lot of people here who are going to be in for a bit of a shock once primary season is over, and the mods come in to hose the place down.

And with that, I've wasted enough time on this thread and the poster (especially his website full of bs). Ignore list growing by the day...

427. Thanks!
I'm always amazed and somewhat disappointed by the number of posters who mistake rants -- and, even moreso, piles of obscenitites -- as thoughtful debate and discussion. Someone logs on, posts "fuck this motherfucking shit" and a hundred others line up shouting Amen, Preach on, Well said. Well said??? I actually agree with what the poster was saying, but I think it's pathetic that others mistake the style for some sort of rousing discussion.

do not care about our nation the least they can do is care about the poor, disabled and elderly. We cannot afford another term of gop. My first candidate did not even run - Al Gore. My second candidate has dropped out - John Edwards. Yet I will vote for whoever wins the nomination because there are people who need help in this nation and it is a sure thing that the gop will not give that help.

392. oh please...
I'm sure it's totally not allowed to call BS on a post by WillPitt, but insisting that Democrats MUST vote for the Democratic candidate falls into the same "my country right or wrong" rhetoric that we (rightly) criticize when the republicans do it. Would it have not been more honorable, AND better for the Republican party if members of that party would have refused to vote for GW because they believed him to be unqualified and incompetent?

I am a Democrat not because I like the sound of the word. I am a Democrat because I have a vision for society, and the party allows me a structure to work towards the acheivement of those goals. Rant and rave all you want, and if burning my house down makes you feel better, fine. I'm heavily insured and it would save me from having to finish the laundry. But rest assured I'll vote for whom I wish based on my own interpretation of what is really in the best interest of the people. And I think that makes me the best kind of Democrat.

First of all, I agree that McCain is not what America needs. However, this is a forum for people to discuss things. I'm getting sick and tired of people blowing up and whining when somebody doesn't agree with them, that they're a "traitor" and blah blah blah.

Trolls are one thing, but if somebody on here doesn't quite live up to your standard for what a democrat/progressive/whatever should be, that's your problem. You can't win an argument by just telling everyone you disagree with to fuck off.

not my words-
"It's time to hit the streets, now, and crush the nuts of this oligarchic monster. We have to stand up, en masse, against an illegally installed regime that has enslaved us. We have to close down highways, perverted agencies and predatory financial terrorists. There is no representative entity left in government because we allowed, for too long, psychotic tyranny to mangle every protection we had. So, let's quit talking as if votes counted and get going. Otherwise, in months, not years, there WILL be extended war, WILL be a declaration of martial law, WILL be a complete silencing of dissent, WILL be a roundup of every sane voice and a mass imprisonment of U.S citizens. Think I'm being an alarmist or agitator? Think Obama or Clinton are on your side? Think that some phantom force will correct the damage done? Think again, because the final steps to permanent fascism are in place. Force has to be met with force, not a sweet and gentle Pollyanna belief in an already broken, now brutal, system."
